Squash de Carlos

Look what Carlos grows in his compost bin without even trying. We aren’t going to eat them but come on – I work my butt off to pollinate my squashes and he does nothing!

Its getting hot in here

This is what happens to the collards in the August summer heat. I bet these guys cannot wait for the fall.

Tomatoes and Beans

The tomato seedlings are doing well. Nothing else I started from seed started to grow. I decided to fill the holes with some more tomato seeds.

The bigger plants have been transplanted to a larger container until they are big enough to add to the garden.

Pinto beans are doing well in the square food gardens for now. I get to reuse the bamboo that my co-worker gave me from my backyard for bean support. A thick cutting from one of my bushes is also put to use for support.

Pineapple Update

If you remember what happened to the poor pineapple I have good news for you. The plant has been relocated to a part of the garden that will get slightly less rainfall (no roof runoff). The resulting pineapple was cut up a couple days later and it was delicious. The size was small but the fruit was extra juicy and sweet. A big win in the backyard fruit category. The leftovers from the pineapple are being used to make a new pineapple plant. My attempt at doing this in the past was not successful but I am willing to try once more.
